DON'T EVER HIRE HIM!!!!!!!!!!! HE IS AN EGOMANIAC WITH NO TALENT AND WILL PURSUE HIS OWN AGENDA AND WASTE YOUR MONEY! HE DOUBLE CHARGED ME FOR HOURS!!!!!
This guy is a complete waste of time, money and emotional stress. He did nothing but try to rack up his bill while ignoring everything I said. This is a complaint regarding practices of overbilling and complete lack of talent in the field of design that I filed with the Better Business Bureau.
My complaint and refusal to pay were both conducted with the advice of my attorney.
The output produced by Jeffrey Scott Hicks Interiors lacked specific requests by my husband and I, namely the following: the COMPLETE LACK OF COLOR, a floorplan that LACKED FUNCTION (two couches facing away from the the TV - duh!) for a family room, and complete disregard for the whole theme I had in mind - beachy light colorful! These requests were articulated on our first meeting and on several occasions thereafter, both verbally and written. In his last presentation - which he billed us for!!!!!!!!! - he was unprepared leaving materials at home, neglected our specific requests, and pursued his own agenda in the meeting continuing to push a "hard sell" despite our dissatisfaction or approval. Finally, when we didn't agree to move forward because his ideas were not what we had asked him to do, he decided to terminate the relationship in an email stating he was unable to get a read on what we were looking for and sent us a bill for all of the time he spent doing nothing according to the guidelines I had set with him.
We tried several times to contact Jeffrey Scott Hicks in response to receiving the $625 bill. He never responded to one phone call. In a letter to Jeffrey Scott Hicks Interiors dated March 2, 2012, we enclosed reasonable payment for services of $125 clearly stating payment in full. This payment was deposited on March 12, 2012 demonstrating accord and satisfaction with payment in full. We then received a harassing and insulting e-mail and a demand for payment letter detailing $625 additional dollars, without noting our payment of $125 THUS HE CHARGED ME TWICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Designer took no responsibility for the fact that he simply did not follow my guidelines. I exercised my right as a consumer to deny payment for unsatisfactory services by sending another letter detailing my dispute with his charges.
In response to our refusal to pay, my husband and I were sued for $784. This would bring us to a total of $909 of fees we paid for designs which were not acceptable and hours in which he claims he was doing work I requested. I could have appealed the decision of the judge who said I had to pay for his ideas despite the fact that he ignored my guidelines, but instead I paid him to get him out of my life for good.
